Galway woman launches range of sustainable bladder leak and period underwear

Galway Advertiser, Thu, Apr 29, 2021

Nickeze, a new Irish brand based in Galway, has recently launched its cutting-edge range of period and bladder leak underwear. An environmentally conscious company, Nickeze specialises in period and bladder leak underwear that is 100 per cent reusable, absorbent, leak-proof, and stylish.

Nickeze owner, Ellie Loftus, is a registered general nurse with postgraduates in paediatrics and intensive care, holds a master of science in health, and is qualified in child and adolescent health screening and surveillance from Trinity College Dublin. In her spare time Ms Loftus is a sprinter, and she is well aware of the shock of bladder leaks on the first run and beyond, indeed the first sneeze, after having a baby. She also represented Ireland on the first Irish Olympic bobsled team, taking part in four World Cups.

She reveals that among her sporting companions, “All we talk about is going to the toilet 100 times before we race and 'padding up', and that was a real eye-opener as I thought if these strong fit women suffer, what must it be like for other women? It’s astonishing to think that over 62 per cent of Irish women suffer from this issue but it is rarely talked about. We made it our mission at Nickeze to change the world of period and bladder leaks, where there are no leaks and no worries.”

Nickeze also specialises in tween and teen period underwear. "I saw first-hand how young girls worried about periods and the fear they had of leaking through their clothes," Ms Loftus said. "The available sanitary products just didn’t alleviate those worries. We cannot underestimate the impact that period anxiety and shame bring to a child or teen. Our Nickeze First Period Box is proving to be a big hit in helping to alleviate these feelings. It contains all the items that are needed for the first period and is designed to keep on the shelf, ready for the big day."

All products are made with Nickeze 4x4 technology, which consists of four layers of specialised fabrics that can hold up to four tampons' worth of liquid without any sanitary product. Nickeze bladder leak underwear can hold up to 6tsp of liquid without any pad. Sanitary products are primarily made of plastic, taking between 500 and 800 years to decompose. Nickeze range of products offers customers a more sustainable solution to disposable sanitary products, while also saving them money and being kinder to the environment.

Nickeze specialises in tween and teen period underwear, period underwear for women, sport and dance period underwear, post-natal maternity underwear for post-partum bleeding, and bladder leak underwear. All products can be purchased from www.nickeze.com
